Monet verbrachte die gesamte zweite Hälfte seines Lebens in Giverny, wo sich sein Seerosenteich und die japanische Brücke, welche über diesen Teich führte, befanden. Er beschäftigte sich viele Jahre lang allein mit diesem Motiv. So entstanden in Giverny etwa three hundred Gemälde, auf denen als Motiv Monets Garten zu sehen ist.
Aufgrund des Umfangs an Bildern, auf denen die japanische Brücke oder der Seerosenteich dargestellt sind, werde ich mich alleine auf die Gemälde beziehen und info aus Monets Biografie oder zeitgeschichtliche Aspekte vernachlässigen. Es geht mir im Wesentlichen um die Beleuchtung der Genese der Abstraktion in den Gemälden der Seerosen-Serie.
